Colin McRae was a Scottish rally driver who was born on August 5, 1968, in Lanark, Scotland. He is best known for winning the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 1995.
He started his career in motorsports from an early age, and his father, Jimmy McRae, was also a rally driver. Colin McRae began competing in local rallies in the early 1980s and moved on to national and international events in the late 1980s.
In 1991, Colin McRae made his debut in the WRC with Subaru Rally Team and came a close second in the 1992 championship. In 1995, he won the WRC, becoming the youngest ever world champion at the age of 27.
Over the course of his career, Colin McRae won 25 WRC events and had 146 stage wins. He continued to compete in the WRC until 2003, racing for Subaru, Ford, and Citroen. He also had success in the Dakar Rally, the Paris-Dakar, and the Race of Champions.
Tragically, Colin McRae died in a helicopter crash in 2007, along with his son and two family friends. He is remembered as one of the greatest rally drivers of all time, known for his spectacular driving style and fearless approach to competition.
